yoga

“If people heighten awareness of their inner states, then they are more apt to come up with new ways of creating a better world.” – Mirabi Bush

Yoga does not have to be complicated or scary in order to work! We teach do-able yoga that brings great results without making you feel like you’re “out of your league”. We challenge you without embarrassing you.

You also don’t necessarily have to be thin, bendy, studio_3and athletic to do good yoga. Classes are available for people of all levels of ability. No previous experience is necessary.

Our classes are small and personalized. This allows us to continually observe each student, making sure that everyone is getting the maximum benefit from the class and is practicing safely.

We realize there are many choices for yoga in the Cleveland area. Our home-based studio has a decidedly different feel than larger commercial studios. Neither environment is necessarily “better” – just as your yoga practice is personal and individual, so should be your choice of studio.

Our classes are yoga_bob-r_3friendly and supportive, and are held in a bright and open studio space. The house has wonderful energy and is very calming and welcoming.

Yoga at Loving Hands is more like a private class with friends, allowing you to connect more deeply with the instructor and with your fellow yogis. For many it also leads to a deeper connection with, and understanding of, your practice.

You are welcome to try a class before joining to see if the small, home-based studio feeling is right for you and your practice.

INTRO CLASSES

~ Yoga is for EveryBODY
Many people are hesitant to try yoga because they don’t think they can do it “right”. But really, anyone can do yoga! Learn about the many ways that yoga can be easily and seamlessly adapted for various conditions and levels of ability, while still providing exceptional benefit.  We will also discuss how yoga helps with strength, flexibility, balance, endurance and relaxations.  Participants will also learn the yoga principles of acceptance, non-judgment, and mindfulness; which helps you to achieve peace and healthy patterns of thinking. (Two hour program if yoga class is also included)

~ Morning Wake-Up Yoga
Having trouble getting going in the morning? Looking for a healthier alternative to coffee? Learn a quick and easy routine you can do at home to boost your energy, get your joints and muscles moving, and jump start your day. Even if you are not an experienced yogi, you will be able to do these poses. We will also learn breathing techniques that can be used to energize you during that afternoon slump, or calm you after that challenging meeting.

Lunchtime Active Yoga
After-Work Relaxation Yoga
Coffee Break Stretching

A healthy and gentle wake-up for the body and mind. Participants will learn stretches and simple yoga poses that they can do on their own to keep their muscles limber, their joints moving, and their minds clear.  They will also learn breathing techniques that can be used to energize themselves during that afternoon slump, or calm themselves when they are feeling upset or agitated.

Posture Made Perfect
We know we are supposed to have “good posture” but we don’t always know how to do it. Learn the guidelines for maintaining good posture while standing, sitting, walking and sleeping. This class will help you correct the not-so-good habits you may have gotten used to. It will also teach you how to internalize what good posture feels like so you can correct those habits on your own. And you’ll learn all the reasons why good posture is so important!

Yoga Classes

Class Schedule

Our classes are small and intimate, with individualized attention. The classes are grouped into quarterly session periods.  I find that this offers a consistent class environment, we are better able to set and achieve goals as a group, and students are able to get to know their fellow yogis.  Single drop-in classes are available to those who want to try a class out before signing up for a session.  Please call ahead to verify space availability.

Yoga Kitties

The studio is home to two cute kitties named Marshmallow and Gracie. They like to hang out during our yoga classes, and Gracie is a natural healer. If you’re not a “cat person” or are allergic to cats, I would be happy to recommend other kitty-free yoga studios for you.

Class Descriptions

Gentle Yoga – This class provides all the benefits of yoga, but at a more relaxed pace.  It is perfect for beginners, or experienced yogis who prefer a slower practice.  We work on our strength, breathing, balance, and flexibility through gentle, fluid poses and stretching.  We focus on the yoga principles of alignment, connecting our breath with our movement, and practicing present-moment awareness. Meditation exercises at the beginning and end of the class help to release stress and worry.  We also discuss methods for bringing peace and relaxation into our daily lives.

Intermediate Yoga – This class is perfect for yogis who have previous yoga experience but who aren’t yet comfortable with the Active Yoga class. We build on the skills learned in the Gentle Yoga class, adding a wider variety of poses at a slightly faster pace. There is also more emphasis on strengthening and balance at this level.

Active Yoga – This is a moderate-intensity class, for yogis who are very familiar with yoga poses and alignment. We build on the skills learned in the Gentle and Intermediate classes, increasing our flow speed and heart rate.  The level of challenge is designed around the students’ desires and abilities.

Private And In-Home Classes

We also provide private yoga classes in our studio for those who would like one-on-one guidance, and we provide in-home classes for those who are unable, or prefer not, to come to the studio.  Private classes can follow any of the above descriptions or can be designed around your specific needs.  Please call us to discuss your needs and intentions, and we will design a program that works for you. Group classes in your home can be a fun combination of exercise and companionship, where you and your friends or family members can practice together!  Class size will depend on how much space you have.  A maximum of 5 people is recommended for the best level of personal attention.  The fee is split between the students.

Private studio classes: $45 per one-hour class, minimum 4 classes (you may try one class first before committing to the four classes) Please note that cancellations with less than four hours notice will be charged the full rate

$45 for 1 class

In-home classes: $45 per one-hour class, plus $35 per hour for travel (pro-rated depending on distance, please contact us for an exact quote). Please note that cancellations with less than four hours notice will be charged the full rate

Yoga for Disabilities

We offer community-based adaptive yoga programs for children and adults with disabilities at various locations in the Cleveland area. We have both seated and standing classes available.

We create a supportive place for being who we are. We create achievement by offering options for each pose, and encouraging each student to work to the best of their ability, whatever that might be. We accept that each person is wonderfully different and unique. Most of all, we focus on abilities rather than disabilities.
